Is the goat milk A-2? and Why do you put Rapeseed oil which is not a safe ingredient in the formula? -
Dear Customer, thank you for your inquiry. I understand that you take Formula compatibility very seriously and I am glad that you do.
I can provide you with the following answers and information regarding your questions:
A2
Goat milk naturally contains mostly A2 protein, which is considered easier to digest for some individuals, particularly those who experience discomfort with regular cow’s milk.
In the context of goat milk formula for children, the presence of A2 protein can be beneficial for those who are sensitive to A1 protein. It’s important to note, however, that if a child has a confirmed cow’s milk protein allergy, goat milk formula might not be suitable as it can also trigger allergic reactions in some cases. It’s always best to consult with a healthcare provider or a pediatric nutrition specialist when considering formula options for children, especially if there are known allergies or digestive issues.
Rapeseed oil
The concern about rapeseed oil in infant formula stems from several factors, but it’s important to understand that the rapeseed oil used in formula today is significantly different from earlier forms of the oil. Here are the key points:
1. Erucic Acid Content: Older varieties of rapeseed oil contained high levels of erucic acid, which was found to be harmful to health, especially in high doses. It could cause heart damage in laboratory animals. However, the modern rapeseed oil, known as canola oil (in North America) or low-erucic acid rapeseed (LEAR) oil elsewhere, has been bred to have very low levels of erucic acid, making it much safer for consumption.
2. Nutritional Profile: Modern rapeseed/canola oil is high in monounsaturated fats and has a favorable omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acid ratio, which is beneficial for health.
3. Use in Infant Formula: The inclusion of rapeseed oil in infant formula is typically part of a blend of oils used to mimic the fatty acid profile of human breast milk. These formulas undergo rigorous testing and must meet strict regulatory standards to ensure they are safe and nutritious for infants.
While there were valid concerns about rapeseed oil in the past due to its erucic acid content, the type of rapeseed oil used in modern infant formulas is much safer and is generally considered a healthy source of fat. However, it’s always important for parents to discuss any concerns about infant formula ingredients with a pediatrician or a qualified healthcare provider.
With kind regards
